The IBC fair reaches new highs in attendance (28.9.2007.)
The CS Computer Systems' team has returned from the IBC multimedia and broadcasting fair that took place in Amsterdam. This year's IBC has set its new attendance record - exposition included over 1.300 products from 120 countries worldwide, including plenty of news from the production industry.
As expected, one of the most actual topics is the HDTV technology. Since the most of the television companies plan migrating to HD production in foreseeable future (with the big sporting events being its main proponent), and yet want to retain the current viewers using SD, there were many products dedicated to parallel production in both formats, signal converters, picture croppers due to screen dimensions (4:3 vs 16:9), etc. Many devices for the CGI integration into a HD picture, and computer-controlled signal processing, were presented as well.
IPTV technology, which keeps being a high trend, has attracted much attention too. We had the opportunity to see many editing, encoding and streaming systems. Throughout the following several years, analysts predict a steep uphill in the global IPTV usage, so most of the companies in the field try to acquire good starting positions.
Being unhappy with the amount of knowledge about the new technologies that the typical producers handle, few manufacturers have begun global educational initiatives. They plan to invest serious sums in these projects, and Panasonic was the strongest proponent of this approach.
Anyway, the IBC fair is becoming more and more influential, and acquires yet more exhibitors and attendees. Therefore, we eagerly await the upcoming one!
